These Are Your New Comfort TV Shows in 2022

Pen15: Okay, Pen15 is not relaxing so much as mildly triggering, but it is hysterical and absurdly underrated. Genius writer-actors Maya and Anna Konkle play themselves as 2000s middle schoolers in a cast of all-real middle schoolers. It’s art.

Happy Endings: People who love Happy Endings speak about the early 2010s ABC comedy like it is a beautiful animal that went extinct. The sitcom follows six friends stumbling together cheerfully through work and relationships problems. It’s very much like an updated Friends

Bob’s Burgers: If you’ve never let adult animated shows into your heart, if you think they just don’t scratch your TV itch, just give Bob’s Burgers a try. It’s the ultimate relaxing, low-stakes show, with deeply endearing characters and endless jokes.

Catastrophe: I don’t know a better TV comedy than Catastrophe, a perverse rom-com about a couple who gets pregnant after a weekend of casual sex and decides to make it work. Catastrophe was created by and stars American comedian Rob Delaney and Irish comedian Sharon Horgan, based on events from Horgan’s own life. Carrie Fisher costars, as wonderful as always, in one of her final roles.

We Are Lady Parts: You can watch the first episode of We Are Lady Parts for free without a Peacock subscription, and you should—the 2021 comedy has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and features foul-mouthed blue collar Muslim women in a feminist punk band, with songs like “Voldemort Under My Headscarf.” It’s a group of characters like none you’ve ever seen in a TV comedy, and they’re shredding on their instruments.
