The premiere date: January 4, 2022. The series will keep its Tuesday night 9 p.m. time slot with a “largely uninterrupted run,” meaning fewer breaks and hiatuses between episodes.

What to expect: Thanks to series creator Dan Fogelman, we have a first look at the final season! He tweeted a picture from the first day on set on September 9, and we’re feeling all the feels, in true This Is Us fashion. The tweet came with a set photo of Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) embracing.

In typical This Is Us fashion, the show has continued setting up mysteries in its most recent season. And it sounds like the payoff will be well worth it. On Sunday, August 15, Fogelman revealed to Deadline that when he told NBC execs over Zoom what twists and turns lie ahead, “People were crying to the point that I wasn’t sure if I should keep going or not…. Cameras were shutting off, and I thought I’d lost people.”

Joked Brown during the same conversation, “But he does this with glee…. He always says, ‘I’m about to kill America.’”

“I just finished writing the season premiere, and it’s the second time I’ve cried writing the show. I was like, ‘Oh, God, what’s happening?’ The first time was when William died. That made me cry,” continued Fogelman, who added this semi-spoiler: “All the questions that you’re asking about Kate, and who’s Nicky [with], and how does this end—we’ve had it very carefully mapped out. So, love it or hate it, we get to go out the way we’ve always planned on going out and executing the plan. I feel very confident in it, and I’m excited about this season.”

The first trailer is here—and it will make you sob. In the first footage from the final season’s trailer, which dropped during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 25, Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) contemplates losing her memory while some of the series’ most joyful and painful scenes play in the background. “I’m not worried about forgetting the big stuff,” she says at one pint. “It’s the little things I’m not ready to let go of yet.”

We’ll keep you posted with updates as they come in.
