Buying wigs online can feel a bit like the Wild West sometimes. First, you have to figure out what you want from the wide array of shades, cuts, and styles that exist. Then, you have to navigate the overwhelming amount of wig brands to ensure you can get the unit you want. But this list of online wig retailers can help make the process easier.
The biggest downside to virtual wig shopping is that you can’t touch or see the hair to check the quality or style for yourself. To remedy this, Alabama-based hairstylist Tamika Gibson recommends doing a bit of research and looking at any online reviews about the units you’re interested in. “Everything from the quality of the lace to the type of hair and density should be mentioned in the description,” she shares. “So, if you know the things you’re looking for — i.e. human hair, density, etc. — this will make shopping a lot easier.” The more specific you are, the easier it will be to narrow down your search.
She also warns against prices that seem too low for the quality of hair advertised. “Prices that seem too good to be true need to be researched heavily,” she shares. “There are a lot of wigs that claim to be made with human hair that are actually made with a blend [which includes] synthetic hair, which can often result in a lower price.”
Once you’ve done all the necessary research, another important thing to keep in mind is the wig’s cap size. It should fit the circumference of your head — you’ll want to have that measurement to ensure that whichever wig you buy is in the size you need, according to Gibson.
