Peloton Responds to What Happens to Mr. Big on the First Episode of And Just Like That…

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Peloton plays a surprising role in the first episode of And Just Like That…, the Sex and the City revival now streaming on HBO Max. (Second warning: If you haven’t watched, turn back now.)

So here’s what happens: Mr. Big decides to skip Charlotte’s daughter’s piano recital for a night in with his Peloton bike (and weekly cigar). After a sweaty 45 minutes, he starts running a shower, then falls to the ground suddenly, in visible pain. He clutches his arm. It becomes clear quickly he’s having a heart attack. When Carrie comes home from the recital, she finds Big on the shower floor, and he dies in her arms. It’s very sad.

And now Peloton is responding to the plot line. (The fitness company, famous for its stationary bikes, started trending online shortly after the episode premiered on HBO Max.)

“Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle—including cocktails, cigars, and big steaks—and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in season six,” preventative cardiologist Suzanne Steinbaum, D.O., who sits on Peloton’s health and wellness advisory council, told The Los Angeles Times. The season-six bit is referring to the SATC episode “The Domino Effect,” in which Big undergoes a heart procedure.

Steinbaum continued, “These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death. Riding his Peloton Bike may have even helped delay his cardiac event.”

When a Sex and the City 3 movie was planned, it was long rumored the script included Big dying of a heart attack in the shower. Noth denied this outright. “He wasn’t going to die,” he told Page Six. “There’s no way he was dying; that was all a lie.” But it looks like he was trying to throw us off.
