How I Keep My Indoor Air Clean: AirDoctor Purifier Review

I don’t know about you, but I am a total homebody. Plus, I work from home. So basically, I don’t leave my house very often, haha. This means I am EXTRA conscious of my indoor air quality and the products I use within my living space.

And according to the EPA, the average American indoor environment is 2 to 5 times more polluted than the outdoor air. The EPA also stated that the worst air pollution in our nation is right inside our own homes and that 50% of all illness is connected to the indoor air quality. Yikes!

One of the most effective ways you can assure pristine air within your home is with an air purifier! But not all are created equal, as I’ve discovered. So today I’m going to share my preferred brand of choice and why it’s so amazing. Plus you know I got some major discounts just for you, my lovely readers!

Why Clean Indoor Air Matters (Like, a Lot!)

Think of all the possible pollutants floating around in your house: dust, pet dander, smoke from cooking, harsh fragrances from chemical cleaning products, candle soot, VOCs off-gassing from furniture and paint, mold…the list goes on!

Some of the health effects associated with indoor air pollutants include:

Irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat
Headaches, dizziness, and fatigue
Respiratory diseases and allergies

There are, of course, many ways you can reduce the total load of pollutants in your home. But today we’re going to focus on one of the most effective: air purifiers!

Why AirDoctor Purifiers are Actually the BEST!

There are many brands on the market and it can surely be difficult to pick one. Well, after doing lots of research and hearing great reviews on the AirDoctor, I took the plunge!

They have three sizes available. I originally purchased the Compact version (AD1000) for our bedroom, and AirDoctor kindly gifted me the AD3000 model after I joined as an affiliate. Since my house is rather small, I don’t feel the need for the larger AD5000 unit. But I would recommend that if you have a lot of square footage to cover, high ceilings, or a large office!

The AD1000 cleans the air in 235 square feet every 12 minutes. The AD3000 cleans 505 square feet every 12 minutes. The AD5000 cleans 868 square feet every 12 minutes.

I personally keep the standard-sized unit in our kitchen which is a central area in our house; it’s on Auto mode 24/7. And then I use the compact unit in our bedroom; I only turn it on at night. I put it on fan speed 2 which is louder and doubles as a white noise machine for me!

(Note: I actually have an old Dyson model as well. It’s very cute and I love that you can sync up to the app to see air quality graphs. However, from what I’ve read, AirDoctor is even more powerful than Dysons, Austin Air, and Molekule!)

AirDoctor is 100x More Effective Than Ordinary HEPA Purifiers

Literally! HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters are designed to trap particles as small as 0.3 microns. But some of the most dangerous particles, such as small smoke particles and viruses, can actually be smaller than the HEPA standard. AirDoctor uses UltraHEPA filters which have been independently tested by third-party labs to remove up to 100% of particles at 0.003 microns in size, which is 100 times smaller than the HEPA standard! Sooooooo awesome.

Each unit is slightly different in terms of the filter situation. But essentially there are three parts:

A pre-filter to stop larger contaminants like hair and dust
A carbon/gas trap filter that removes ozone, gases, odors, and VOCs
An UltraHEPA filter that captures the superfine teeny tiny particles

And, the entire system is sealed so all of the air coming through gets purified. This thing is POWERFUL!

What AirDoctor Filters from the Air:

AirDoctor captures 100% of airborne particles as small as 0.003 microns in size and the majority of VOCs including:

Smoke
Bacteria
Viruses (even COVID-19! A study conducted by an independent non-profit research organization found that it removed 99.97% of the virus from the air!)
Pollen
Gases
Mold (to be clear, it captures mold spores but does not remediate the actual source of mold, which should be addressed separately!)
Dust mites (I notice there is less dust around since using this)
Pet hair and dander (as a dog mama, I appreciate this)

AirDoctor Pros & Cons: My Review

PROS:

Easy to use and set up
Quiet (it can get loud temporarily if the air quality is really bad i.e. while you’re cooking but it goes back to normal fairly quickly)
Has multiple fan speeds or you can put it on Auto mode and the sensor will adjust accordingly (it turns Red when the quality is poor, Orange when it’s moderate, and Blue when all is good)
Lights are dimmable for nighttime
Filters particles 100x smaller than most HEPAs
Fully sealed system so pollutants don’t escape
Has a timer function so you can program it
Lightweight and doesn’t take up too much space
Indicates when the filter needs changing so you don’t have to guess or keep track
Not outrageously expensive (plus my readers get an exclusive MAJOR discount!)
Energy-efficient and uses low power (between 7 and 110 watts)

CONS:

You can’t control it via an app like some other brands, but I suppose that’s also a PRO because it’s not connecting to WiFi/Bluetooth or emitting excessive EMFs (always looking on the bright side here)
It does output air like a fan, but you can’t adjust the temperature and there’s no Heat/Cool function
You do need to buy replacement filters (see below for upkeep info!)

Purifier Upkeep & Filter Maintenance

Overall, there is not much upkeep with these which is nice! It also depends on usage and how “dirty” your air is. Here’s generally what is needed if you keep the machine on non-stop:

Monthly: Vacuum the pre-filter monthly to remove excess hair/dust/etc. The pre-filter can be washed too but needs to be fully removed, hand washed with gentle soap, and completely dried before putting it back in.

Every 6 Months: For the AD1000 unit, replace both the Carbon/VOC and UltraHEPA filters. For the AD3000 and AD5000 units, just the Carbon/VOC filter. These filters are not washable.

Yearly: Replace the UltraHEPA filter for the AD3000 and AD5000 units.

Conclusion: Yes, They’re Worth the Money!

In general, I honestly think these are worth the price and have been thoroughly pleased with mine. They’re not the techiest on the market, but they’re powerful and get the job done without too many frills. Highly recommend!
