On November 25, the pop star shared an Instagram video featuring three adorable dogs she describes as her “squad.” According to People, the pup chilling in her lap is Tarzan, the dog the “Señorita” singer adopted with her ex, Shawn Mendes, last year.
“I have a lot to be thankful for, but I’m especially grateful that I gotta whole squad trying to hang w me while I meditate 🧘♀️,” Cabello wrote in the caption. “Happy gratitude day everybody!”
The singer also took the time to acknowledge her human friends, family, and, of course, her supportive fans. “I’m very thankful for all of you on here who send me love, listen to my music, and support me on this creative/ life journey! even though I haven’t met a lot of you, you guys show me love, kindness, and support and I’m sending it to all of you right back,” she continued. “After all, we’re all alive at the same time in this crazy, confusing, magical world and I do believe we’re all interconnected and are never truly alone. Grateful for my human family and friends and my plant and animal family and friends ❤️ Sending you guys so much love and gratitude today ❤️”
On November 17, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendez released joint statements on Instagram Stories announcing their split after two years. “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” they said, per E! News. “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
While this came as a shock to many of their fans, sources told People that the relationship simply ran its course. “It just wasn’t a relationship that can move forward at this point,” the source said. “It seems the romance just fizzled.”
Days later, another source suggested that Shawn Mendes initiated the split. While Camila Cabello was reportedly “very upset over the split,” the source revealed that she ultimately “agreed” it was for the best.
“The relationship was getting stale and complacent, and they decided they are better off being friends,” the source told E!, adding that it “was not a bad breakup at all.”
As for Cabello, she’s working through it. “It was really hard for a few days but she has been spending a lot of time with friends and keeping busy,” the source said. “She has a huge support system and is feeling renewed now.”
