Allure’s School of Beauty Virtual Event: Winter Beauty Tips & Holiday Glam Inspiration

During our first Allure School of Beauty virtual event, beauty experts and Allure editors got together at the Allure store in NYC (and over Zoom, of course) to dish about healthy holiday hair and skin care, as well as how to best use three Best of Beauty Award-winning products. What came up in the conversation? Acne in the winter, holiday glam for both the makeup-obsessed and the more low-key, and damage-free, healthy hairstyles.

Keep reading for some of our favorite tips and tricks, but be sure to register HERE to watch the entire event. You won’t be short of inspiration for the coming holidays and beyond.

Healthy Holiday Hair

Celebrity hairstylist and Tresemmé global ambassador Justine Marjan and Allure deputy editor Kara McGrath got specific with their healthy-hair tips and how to get the perfect holiday mane this season. First up: How do you know if your hair is really damaged? “Some of the signs of damaged hair are frizz, a dull appearance, lackluster shine, difficulty styling, breakage, split ends, your color fading fast, and poor elasticity,” Marjan told McGrath. “Any of these or a combination of these could be a sign that your hair is damaged.”

Marjan explained that an increase in heat styling, hair color, bleaching, or other chemical services, environmental stresses (like pollution and UV rays) can all lead to damage. There’s a pretty good chance your own strands are suffering from at least some of these issues. But there is hope! Marjan loves the Allure Best of Beauty Award-winning Tresemmé Keratin Repair Shampoo and Conditioner for the way they work together to “strengthen the hair bonds, leave your hair healthier, prevent split ends, and maintain the integrity of your hair with each use.”

Marjan went on to show how she creates holiday-ready hairstyles without using heat, which gives strands a break from tools that may cause damage. She revealed how you can use the belt from a bathrobe or even socks (!) to get bouncy curls overnight — but you’ll have to watch to learn

Allure executive director Soyini Driskell and Allure editor Nicola Dall’asen went head-to-head in a makeup challenge showcasing the top beauty looks for the 2021 holiday season. Dall’asen decided to go out-of-the-box for her holiday glam, favoring stick-on pearls, a dark lip, and tons of blush. Driskell, on the other hand, went more classic with light shimmer in tones of brown and red.
